Doing better!

Okay, if you haven't noticed, I have finished a few older posts and they are up and have updated my layout and such. I have written a few others, but they're not quite publish-able. I promise to have another full post tomorrow, but I'm not sure what that's going to be about just yet- time will tell. Now to work on getting some followers! :)

Goals

A while back, I blogged that Scott and I had been selected as the "dairy couple" for the DFA YC program. Our first official trip was to the National Milk Producers Federation annual meeting in Reno, NV. We were really excited to go, mostly because we needed to get the heck out-a dodge together for a while. We did learn a lot, most of it wasn't good news as far as the dairy economy goes. But we did meet a bunch of new people our age in the same boat that we are and made some new dairy friends.

The YC part of the program was actually helpful. One morning was spent learning how to present dairy farming in a positive light in today's social media (see number 10 below). Another presentation was focused towards running dairies as a family BUSINESS and navigating all of the interpersonal relationships involved therein. All super relevent to our situation. The thing that influenced me the most was just a purely motivational speaker. What I took away from his talk was to write down your goals and to physically carry them on your person. I wrote them down, and they are in my day planner, which is within arms reach most of the time. Here they are and a short progress report for each.

1. Improve my Christian walk through daily Bible study, consistent prayer, and attitude. This will be a life-long goal and will always be first on the list, because there is always room for improvement here. I do read at least 5 days a week and pray with Scott nearly every night before we fall asleep. The personal prayer life and attitude need to be improved definately.

2. Become a more loving, serving, caring Christian wife and mother. Another given, but it helps to write everything down. And before anyone gets too excited, no I'm not expecting, but just praying for our future children.

3. Support Scott's decisions and the dairy. Most of the time, it comes easy to support Scott- he has a level head on his shoulders and never does anything without thinking it through at length. The dairy, however, many times does not make any sense to me. I have to bite my tongue and remind myself that they got along these past 40 years without me. :)

4. Wake up at 6:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Probably not a goal most people would have, but I have problems. I dislike getting up earlier than I have to to get ready and go to work. However, on the rare occassions I do get up earlier, I get a lot of housework and organizing done. So if I can make myself get up, I can get all that stuff done before work. Not doing so well with this one- I may do it once a week. Sad.

5. Work out 4 times a week. And subheading under this has become the goal of "Run a 5K before I turn 30." I am actually doing really well with this one. Bowie has opened a gym and I've been going 3-4 times a week since it opened and can run 2.5 miles (about 4K) without stopping. I have registered for a race on Feb 26th, which is two weeks late but the closest I could find to the actual day. Insert big grin here.

6. Weigh 155 pounds. Why this amount? According to the BMI, this is what I need to weigh to not be overweight... seriously??? I'm 10 pounds down, whoo-hoo!! Why do I feel I need to loose weight? One reason is to get in shape before we try to have a baby to avoid things like pregnancy diabetes and pre-eclamsia and to make it easier on my old bones to carry a pregnancy. Sometime in the future.

7. Double Kiwanis membership and start a Key Club. Key Club charter paperwork will actually be sent off tomorrow!!!! Kiwanis has 3 new members- still working on that one. I have 8 more months until my presidency is up, that's more than one a month.

8. Earn board certification as a Veterinary Practicioner or a Dimplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. This one is geared towards furthering myself as a Veterinarian later in my career to keep myself from becoming stale.

9. Become part-owner of a vet clinic and become more proficient in large animal medicine and surgery, especially dairy practice. My first love in vet med is food animal, which has gotten bumped to the back-burner a little because my employers are so skilled and have male genatalia which makes them much better at working on farm animals (insert sarcasm here). So those skill and knowledge has fallen by the wayside and I need to try to prove myself and be more assertive.

10. Start Twin Oaks Farm website and blog at least once a week. So..... the web site is started and is a work in progress. It has not been published yet because I haven't had the time to sit down and work for a long time on it. And the blog will get started when the website is published and will center around dairy stuff.

So that's it- those are my current life's ambitions. Very random, I know, but they center around all the different aspects of my life, from home to work to community. Hopefully by sharing them here it will provide me with some accountability. Thanks!

So sorry....

Okay, I'm apparently really bad at this blogging thing. It's not that I don't have great ideas for posts, it's just that I never get around to writing about them.

So, in the coming weeks, I promise to blog about things such as:
- Christmas 2010
- Montague County Youth Project 2011
- The current state of affairs at the dairy
- A few funny vet stories
- Goals and New Year's Resolutions (that are actually working, thank-you-very-much)
- Several entries that we started long long ago, but were never completed

And, a blog makeover!! Cross my heart and hope...
